Poor waste segregation and confusion about what can and cannot be recycled remain major contributors to contamination. Research conducted for MyWaste Ireland found that 26% of people cited confusion about accepted materials as a reason for placing incorrect items in recycling streams, while 38% said they sometimes dispose of items incorrectly when in a hurry.
